RETRAINING | by Jan Philippe Carpio
17 April, 2008
Independent Filipino filmmaker Jan Philippe Carpio provides the first critical review of Standing Up!
"The reality of death hangs in the air almost as inevitable as a drop of water falling from a leaky faucet head. One then realizes the importance of personal relationships that we create rather than the official titles of “family” or “corps”. It is our involvement and openness to them that make them so, much more than their defined and set protocols of behavior. Azimi deciding to focus on a particular military environment clearly reinforces the reality of how temporary our relationships are. The film is a refresher course to remind us of this."
